I have no explanation for that. Nor do I need one. Most likely there
was some sort of hacking going on by someone who wants to make me look
like an idiot. It's not like there's any shortage of suspects around
here, given that description, though I'd put my money on Sherm, who
has exhibited some hacking-like behavior already, or Tristram for the
Okay .... You said that Bent posted something in Latin. I found
the "Latin" post (fake Latin, as I understand it, but no matter),
but the author was someone else. Given the choice between your
not remembering exactly who the author was -- an easy mistake to
make in the circumstances -- and someone having hacked Google's
archives, well -- if you genuinely believe that the latter is a
more likely explanation ....
Wow. Just wow.
It's not the first time he's claimed someone has hacked a discussion
archive to plant fake evidence. He's also claimed that someone hacked
the openoffice discussion lists to plant posts using his email
address that are signed "Paul Derbyshire".
By his own rules and assertions he feels he must act like he believes
that, too, whether he does or not: to do otherwise would be tantamount
to admitting a (very minor and totally understandable) mistake, which
he evidently can't allow himself to do. It's one of the reasons I've
given up on him; anyone willing to act that irrationally to avoid
admitting to an error is not someone I'm capable of having a
constructive relationship with.
Personally, I think that if Bent hacked google's archive to plant a
post there under my name, or to change his name to mine, he's done an
amazing job. The headers and injection information match mine
perfectly, and he's even gone so far as to plant a fake memory in my
mind of writing the post Twisted is referring to. Given that kind of
ability, Bent must be the world's most powerful human. He could
make people remember or forget anything at all, making him immune to
normal justice or politics and effectively infinitely wealthy. We
should all work towards not offending Bent, lest we cease to be
remembered by anyone!
