Thanks for the reply I was able to make it work with CEditView...
But the only problem that I face is changing the background color to
white as I set readonly property the
background color is grayed out

I do the following to set background color
ON_WM_CTLCOLOR_REFLECT()

HBRUSH CEditViewEx::CtlColor(CDC* pDC, UINT nCtlColor)
{
    // TODO: Change any attributes of the DC here

    // TODO: Return a non-NULL brush if the parent's handler should not
be called
    COLORREF color;
    CBrush brush;
    brush.CreateSolidBrush(RGB(255, 255,255));
    pDC->SetBkColor(RGB( 255, 255, 255 ));

}

Background color appears only to text region and the rest of the
unused view region remains still grey

Am I doing something wrong here

There is no such thing as a *handle* to a CDocument.
