Re: Monitoring Java JVM......

Mikoomi is an enterprise-level monitoring solution and framework based
on one of the best open source monitoring products out there -
ZABBIX.
Mikoomi is packaged as a virtual appliance and combines Zabbix with
Ubuntu, Apache, MySQL and PHP.
Free and open-source agents are available for monitoring DB2 and Java
JVM and additional agents will be developed and released on a regular
basis.
The website is clean, attractive and well organized. While I have not tried
the product, I note that on the site you make mistakes:
- in brand names, which bespeaks unprofessionalism:
"... the Sun J2SE JDK ..."
"... The Java JVM Monitoring Agent is used to monitor a Java Virtual Machine
(JVM) using Java Management Extensions (JMX) which is part of the Java
Standard Edition since J2SE 5.0."
- in grammar and usage:
= no comma prior to "which" in the above quoted passage, albeit that is a
subtle one.
= "... two untar'ed files ... user-id ..." (plus inconsistent use of
terminating periods in that bullet list).
= "... the appropriate DB2 related environment variables ..."
= "The agent is built-in into the base ..."
= inconsistent spelling of "ZABBIX" vs. "Zabbix".
= "... required that the server also have an install of DB2 client s/w ..."
(Were your fingers too tired to type "software"?)
all of which you nearly make up for by spelling "complementary" correctly.
- in facts about Java, which makes one wonder how good a job you could
possibly have done:
"... a JVM running Java programs ("class" or "jar" file) ..."
As for Roedy's thought that you offer a "free gift", it's clear that this is a
commercial site with a profit motive.
Technically what worries me is that the system is based on PHP and MySQL and
requires yet another product, Zabbix, though at least that latter seems like a
pretty standard offering from many Linuces, including Ubuntu.
