A couple of examples come to mind: initializing an array of UI controls,
and initializing an array of network sockets (or whatever they are in
Java...I forget the details).

"Examples come to mind ..." Does this mean you've actually
found occasion to do this, or that it's possible to imagine a
scenario where it's possible to imagine that the technique might
be useful? I was sort of hoping for descriptions of situations
people had encountered in real-life programming. Are yours of
that kind?
