You will have to handle this on your own.

Derive a class from CComboBox, catch WM_CHAR and WM_TIMER messages.

Add CString m_Str; to the class decleration.

Do this:

void LSComboBox::OnChar(UINT nChar, UINT nRepCnt, UINT nFlags)
{
   m_Str += CString((TCHAR)nChar);
   SelectString(-1,m_Str);
   //clear the string after 2 seconds
   SetTimer(200,2000,NULL);
}

void LSComboBox::OnTimer(UINT nIDEvent)
{
   if (nIDEvent == 200)
   {
      KillTimer(nIDEvent);
      m_Str.Empty();
   }

   CComboBox::OnTimer(nIDEvent);
}
