Here is a funny scenario:
You have a mfc app (say dialog based). One of your fields is and edit
field but it is used for password and it will show data as *****. When
the app starts, you load an encrypted file and from that file you load
the password then you show it in the control (as ***). Now, I take your
app (exe), get to the resource and change the stype of the edit box to
not show ***. Then I start your app and I can see the password there in
clear!?

In this case, I would get the style of the control in the OnInitDialog
function after the controls are all created and reset the style bit for
password.
