Ok. I looked up the SHFindfiles. I am using VC++ 6 sp5. This function is
not
listed. I can use the shell object.FindFiles but am uncertain how to call
the
function. In other words set the shell obect up. Either way I probably
will
not be able to limit the functions available or the extenstions that I
only
want. What would be the best to display my list of files like the search
dialog. List box or vlist box. I would like it to display name date
size...
Any example code anywhere?

I am not aware of windows exposing the search routing. Of course there
is
SHFindFiles but will only bring up the Common Search dialog (the same
one as
when you click Start/Search). You won't be able to access the results.
With the code below you can filter things by getting the date/time using
CFileFind's GetLastWriteTime();

I understand the programming of the searching of files. What I was
reffering
to is the file search menu on the startup/task bar. It has Time and
date
search functions. My question was, is this ( that task bar function)
available to insert and modify. I only need the date and time style
search
since I know my file ext and location. I can program the file date
search
but
again if this program on the task bar is available, I would like to
use it
with some mods (certain functions not shown). the code your submitted
will
help if I have to program the function by hand..
Thanks..

Not sure if I follow but here is how to search for files.
void CMySearchDlg::StartSearch(CString StartPath)
{
CFileFind finder;
BOOL bWorking = finder.FindFile(StartPath+"\\*.*");
while(bWorking)
{
bWorking = finder.FindNextFile();
if(!finder.IsDots())
{
if(!finder.IsDirectory())
{
//its a file see if it is what we are looking for
char Filename[MAX_PATH];
char Ext[MAX_PATH];
_splitpath(finder.GetFilePath(),NULL,NULL,Filename,Ext);
if (stricmp(Ext,".txt") == 0)
{
//Found Text File
}
}
else
{
//search sub directory
StartSearch(finder.GetFilePath());
}
}
}
}

I have an app that needs to search for a specific file ext. I need
the
functions of the standard file search that Windows supplies but
want
to
place
it inside my App with limited functions. Mainly time and date
search.
Is
there any examples on how this search function is displayed or a
certain
call
that I can make to the OS? I can write a complex proceedure but do
not
want
to reinvent the wheel is its available.
