Your choice of database selection is an odd coincidence. A little while
back, I posted a question in comp.lang.java.programmer about a problem I
was having reading data in a Java program from a MySQL database. As well
as answers to that question, I got advice against MySQL. After some more
discussion, I switched to PostgreSQL.

You still don't know how to do it with MySQL. Yeah, be real proud of
that.

Thanks. I do take pride in exercising good judgment when deciding how to
spend my study time.

Back in the dark ages, when I was learning Fortran, I really wanted to
learn all about computers. Since then, the amount of information covered
by "all about computers" has grown so fast that I long ago gave up on
learning everything.

Instead, I try to work out what things I most need to know for my
current objectives, plus the things that happen to interest me, and
concentrate on those.

I know the nature of the problem I was having with MySQL, and where to
find a link to a page discussing a possible work-around. That is all I
need on that subject unless or until I have to do something similar with
MySQL.
