Since RC is using pretty much the same proprocessor, you can include
resource text into your .rc file, surrounding it in .h file with

#ifdef RC_INVOKED

<your resource text>

#endif

That's what I was afraid of. So then a class that includes resources
requires
the dev to manually add them to the project? There's no dynamic resource
functionality?

MFC projects have a .rc file that does a #include "<project>.rc2", which
is stored in the res\ folder. Maybe you could create a file similar to
this which is intended to be #included in the orignal .rc. However, the
resource IDs for your cursor and icon need to be merged into the
resource.h file also. And any conflicting ID's resolved. So, I can't see
where this would buy you anything, sorry.
